Things to do on your own
Mt Rainier National Park is about 90 min from Yakima by car, though it can take an extra hour to get from the entrance to Paradise. September is the absolute best time to hike and tour the area. Plan on this being an all-day adventure.
The Yakima River/Canyon is one of the country’s best fly-fishing spots. Experienced anglers can drop a line in on your own or arrange a float trip tour with Red’s Canyon, about a half hour drive up the canyon from Yakima.
It’s not all about wine either. 70% of all the hops in the United States are grown in the Yakima Valley and there are numerous award-winning breweries here in the region: BaleBreaker, Cowiche Canyon, and Varietal to name a few. We’d be happy to help beer lovers arrange tours of these great places.
